Church to hold clothing giveaway

COVINGTON - Families looking for a little more help this year will have another chance to get it this week.

From 2 to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, The City Refuge Christian Church at 2185 Washington St. in Covington will hold a free clothing giveaway.

"We did this two or three years ago when we first started out, and a member stepped up (this year) and said we need to do this again," church pastor Ronnie White said.

"Times are hard, and we need to help people out."

He said the church held a small trial run giveaway a couple of weeks ago and had a big turnout.

"It was overwhelming ... and a whole lot worse than a couple of years ago when we didn't get nearly the response," he said. "We were busy the whole time."

White said this week, more individuals have been donating to the batch of clothing that will be given away this week, so the church is stocked with lots of children's clothing and women's clothing, as well as some men's apparel and shoes.

"A lot of the clothes still have tags on them," he said. "We don't want to give anything away that we wouldn't give our children."

Sometime in December, the church plans to hold another free giveaway of more clothing, as well as toys for the holidays and coats to keep warm in the cold winter months.

"And what we don't give away, we will take it to a shelter," White said.

To make donations to the church for this week's drive or a future drive, visit the church on Washington Street or call the church at 770-572-7363.
