COVINGTON - The Newton County Community Food Pantry and Newton County Ministers Union is once again holding a community Thanksgiving dinner for those in need.
The dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thanksgiving Day at Sharp Learning Center, located at 3135 Newton Drive, across from the YMCA in Covington. Volunteers are needed to help prepare and serve the meal. Anyone interested in helping prepare food should be at Sharp by 8 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Those interested in serving should arrive by 10:30 a.m. Food donations are also needed. Turkeys, raw potatoes, canned cranberry sauce, corn and green beans, pre-browned rolls and desserts are among the items requested. Donations can be made at Sharp on Nov. 26 or 27, or prior to that at the Community Food Pantry, located at 7125 Turner Lake Circle, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday and Thursday and between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday and Friday. Approximately 800 meals are served at the dinner, Food Pantry Director Rosalee Thompson said. "It's amazing. You don't think you'll end up with that many dinners going out," she said, but noted the need is always there every year. For more information, call 770-784-0037.
