All five kindergarten classes at Livingston Elementary School went through the new 30-foot mobile teaching unit recently purchased by the Newton County Fire Service, which simulates conditions that could be present during a real fire. "We smoke it up and teach them to escape," Fire Safety Educator Cydnie Taylor said. "There's even a heated door where they can touch it and feel it's heated." Other features of the unit include a stove with a simulated pot on fire, a fireplace and a 24-minute weather package that lets students feel the approach of an impending tornado and learn safety measures in case of bad weather. For more information about the Fire Safety House, call Taylor at 678-625-5025 or visit the Web site at www.newtoncountyfireservice.org.
