Stop, drop and roll

All five kindergarten classes at Livingston Elementary School went through the new 30-foot mobile teaching unit recently purchased by the Newton County Fire Service, which simulates conditions that could be present during a real fire. "We smoke it up and teach them to escape," Fire Safety Educator Cydnie Taylor said. "There's even a heated door where they can touch it and feel it's heated." Other features of the unit include a stove with a simulated pot on fire, a fireplace and a 24-minute weather package that lets students feel the approach of an impending tornado and learn safety measures in case of bad weather.
