Shots fired in Enclave subdivision
Three homes hit; no injuries

COVINGTON - An unknown gunman apparently shot into three homes on Lakeside Circle in the Enclave subdivision Monday night, according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office.

"Around 8:30 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a residence at 945 Lakeside Circle in reference to shots being fired," NCSO spokesman Lt. Mark Mitchell said. "While deputies were en route, the resident of 925 Lakeside Circle called and said someone had just busted out the rear sliding glass door of her residence."

Mitchell said deputies ultimately discovered that a row of three homes - 925, 935 and 945 Lakeside Circle - had been fired into with what investigators believe was a handgun.

Mitchell said no one was hurt during the incident, but one home owner reported a bullet going into a wall and one into a kitchen cabinet. The three homes were all equipped with sliding glass doors, and they were all shattered, he said.

While investigating the shooting, Mitchell said deputies looked at a nearby house at 915 Lakeside Circle and discovered that someone had apparently forced entry into the residence. No one appeared to be home at the time.

"They checked the residence to make sure no one was hurt or injured and found marijuana growing in an upstairs room," Mitchell said.

The marijuana plants were turned over to the Special Investigation Unit, and the matter is still under investigation.
