KCNB hosts fundraiser on Friday

COVINGTON - Keep Covington-Newton Beautiful is hosting its annual Green Getaway fundraiser Friday to raise money for its education and beautification programs.

The event will take place at Charlie Elliott Wildlife Conference Center, located at 543 Elliott Trail in Mansfield.

A pre-party will kick-off at 6 p.m. with entertainment from local band Sweet Harmony and a silent auction. At 7 p.m., attendees will enjoy a rib dinner, entertainment by Elvis impersonator Mark Eskew and a live auction.

Items up for grabs this year include a family fun day at Jackson Lake; two hunting trips; a low country boil for 12; a mountain getaway weekend; Sunday brunch for eight catered by local chef Irene Smith; a cocktail party catered by Plain Nuts and more. In addition, Michelin Tires is raffling off a set of new tires.

Proceeds will benefit KCNB's educational programs in local schools and some beautification efforts as well.

"We need $15,000 annually to keep our school programs going," KCNB Director Connie Waller said. "We used to have a grant to fund that and when the grant dried up is when we started doing the fundraiser. It was either do the fundraiser or just not do the education programs."

Tickets for the Green Getaway are $50 each and are available by calling 770-784-2015 or e-mailing newtonclean@co.newton.ga.us.

Waller encouraged anyone who can to come out and help support a good cause.

"It is certainly a community effort. We've had people from all walks of life get involved with this. I think people believe in the cause of making the community the best it can be," she said.
