Newton High School student Shamer Hansford unloads groceries that were donated to Solid Rock Baptist Church on Brown Bridge Road. Hansford and other students are part of the school's community-based instruction program. In the program, special-needs children go on site to local businesses to help out. NHS students go to Newton Medical Center to assist as needed, Kroger to bag groceries, area churches to clean and the food pantry to help stock it. Director Jack Vanderzwart of Willing Helpers Food Pantry behind Solid Rock Baptist Church said an $8 donation is requested for those who use the food pantry's services.
