CONYERS - A lucky couple could win a wedding valued at more than $10,000 through a contest sponsored by Rockdale Medical Center's MATURE Project.
Contest organizers are looking for stories submitted by couples from Rockdale, Newton or DeKalb counties explaining their love for one another in a 600-word essay or a 5-minute video, titled, "Marriage of a Lifetime."
The deadline for entries is Tuesday and the winner will be announced on Nov. 9 during the Angelic Affairs East Metro Atlanta Bridal Show at DeKalb Technical College's Covington Campus, located at 16200 Alcovy-Jersey Road.
Marriage Appreciation Training Uplifting Relationship Education started in 2006 after RMC received a $2 million federal grant to educate high school students on relationships and promote marriage appreciation.
Phillippia Faust, director of the MATURE Project, said the Win-A-Wedding contest continues MATURE's mission to promote healthy relationships among adolescents and abstinence of sex until marriage.
The MATURE Project hosts several community events each year, promoting its message to area youth. The group holds an annual mock wedding ceremony for teenagers. This wedding contest, however, is the group's first effort to promote marriage with an actual wedding.
Vendors with the bridal show have partnered with MATURE in the Win-A-Wedding contest and will provide services that create an intimate wedding and reception for the bride and groom and up to 200 guests, Faust said.
Essay judging will be based on the strength of commitment to the relationship, willingness of the couple to attend 10 hours of marriage education and the romantic appeal of the couple's courtship.
Faust said there is a $25 entry fee and only one entry per couple will be accepted. The bride and groom must both be 21 years or older and have no children. One or both must reside in DeKalb, Rockdale or Newton counties.
The complete contest rules and additional information are available by e-mailing email@example.com, or calling the MATURE office at 770-918-3659.
