Man robbed at gunpoint in vacant rental house

COVINGTON - A man was robbed at gunpoint at a vacant house on East Country Woods Drive around 1:15 Tuesday afternoon, according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office.

The man told NCSO investigators he was working on a vacant rental home and had walked outside to the garage area when he was approached by a black male with a chrome handgun, spokesman Investigator Sharron Stewart said.

The suspect is described as weighing between 200 and 210 pounds and was dressed in all-black with a black bandanna that had purple diamond shapes on it.

"He pulled the gun and walked the subject back into the house and asked him for his belongings," Stewart said, adding that he took the man's cell phone and wallet. "Then he told him to go out the back door and keep walking. He (the suspect) apparently fled on foot."

Stewart said the area where the robbery took place is a residential area and investigators are hopeful that someone saw something and will give them a call.
