RCSO puts out sketch of suspect
Man wanted in shooting

CONYERS - The Rockdale County Sheriff's Office continues to look for the suspect or suspects involved in the shooting death earlier this month of a South Carolina man outside the Waffle House on Salem Road.

James Bernard Johnson, 34, of 305 Bozard Mill Road in Leesville, S.C., was shot about 3:30 a.m. on May 20 while sitting in the passenger seat of an SUV parked in front of the restaurant.

The shooter is believed to have walked over to the SUV and fired a weapon. The man then entered a

four-door, light-colored Pontiac Grand Prix occupied by at least one other individual.

Surveillance footage taken at the time of the incident appears to show the suspect running alongside the vehicle and entering the Pontiac through the left rear door.

According to family members, Johnson is survived by his wife, Danielle, and three children.

Investigator Grote Levett said the sheriff's office has a description of one of the suspects in the shooting, as provided by witness accounts. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation worked with witnesses to create a composite sketch of the suspect.

Levett said the RCSO is searching for a black man between 18 and 25 years of age. He is believed to be of stocky build, about 5 feet, 7 inches or 5 feet, 8 inches in height and weighing approximately 215 or 220 pounds. The man has a small mustache or goatee.

Levett said this man was also seen in the company of a tall, slender black man about the same age.

Anybody with information regarding the identity of the suspect or suspects or who has any information regarding the shooting is asked to call Inv. Levett at 770-918-6735 or Inv. Amanda Pilgrim at 770-761-3084. Levett said the name of anyone providing information can be kept anonymous.
