To the editor:
On Monday we observe the 140th Memorial Day in America. From America's first colony and through today, our finest sons and daughters have served to protect us all and laid down their lives, if need be. All gave some, some gave all; and lived with the reality of John 15:13. From a memorial in Arlington National Cemetery, the following quote sums up whom we honor - "not lured by ambition or goaded by necessity ... but in simple obedience to duty as they understood it, these men (and women) suffered all, sacrificed all ... dared all ... and died." Freedom is not free! In a wartime prayer by Eleanor Roosevelt (first lady during WWII), she prayed "Dear God, lest I continue my complacent way, help me remember that somewhere, somehow out there a man (or woman) died for me today. As long as there be war, I then must ask and answer, "Am I worth dying for?" As you enjoy all your freedoms, while continuing your complacent ways, ask yourself "Am I worth dying for?"
