The victim of a one-vehicle crash Friday morning on Brown Bridge Road was taken by ground ambulance to a landing zone at Solid Rock Baptist Church to be transported by Emory Flight to an Atlanta trauma center. The accident occurred about 9:15 a.m. and snarled morning traffic for about 30 minutes. The victim was driving a Chevrolet Caprice, traveling east in the direction of Turner Lake Road when he left the roadway, went over an embankment and overturned in a ditch. Capt. Rob Christopher of the Covington Fire Department said the victim was complaining of shoulder pain and had lacerations on his arms, legs and head. The Jaws of Life and other equipment were used to extricate him from the crash. Capt. Ken Malcom of the Covington Police Department said the victim was wearing a seat belt and was conscious and alert when officers arrived at the scene, but he was unable to provide an explanation for the crash. "He's obviously very fortunate to be alive. The descent in that area was pretty steep and made for a very hard impact."
