Woman videotapes alleged indecent act

COVINGTON - A Covington man has been charged with public indecency and indecent exposure after being caught on tape during an incident that took place Friday at the Metro PCS store on Salem Road.

According to Investigator Sharron Stewart of the Newton County Sheriff's Office, a woman who works at the store reported that the 29-year-old man came into the store and began masturbating in front of her.

She told investigators that she asked him what he was doing, and he responded by asking her if she wanted to spend the night with him, Stewart said. The woman also said that a few minutes after leaving the store, the man called her and asked her again if she wanted to spend the night with him.

"She said this was not the first time he had done this, but this was the first time she was able to get him on video," Stewart said.

Armed with the videotaped evidence, deputies spotted the suspect walking across the street near the store and arrested him.

LaVaughn Sherman Thompson, 29, of E-137 Salem Glen Way was charged with public indecency/indecent exposure and stalking and was transported to the Newton County Detention Center.
