Georgia Perimeter College to host Greek Festival

COVINGTON - If you're on the Newton Campus of Georgia Perimeter College this Thursday and find yourself saying, "It's all Greek to me," well, that's the whole point.

GPC will host a Greek Festival that is free and open to the public from noon to 5 p.m. in the atrium of its campus off Ga. Highway 11.

Titled "Connections: The Greeks - A World Odyssey," the festival will feature educational presentations by GPC faculty; guest speakers on topics ranging from politics to art, nutrition and theater; Greek food; and entertainment by folk musicians and dancers.

The event will kick off at noon with a live video/audio conference with Skopelos, a small town in Greece, followed by a presentation on how to make conference connections with anyone anywhere in the world.

"In a setting of fun music and healthy foods, this event will demonstrate a technology that is shrinking our world and present ancient Greek ideas - mind and body, art, poetry and politics - all very relevant in our lives today," said Tom Amygdalitsi, with GPC's Office of Information Technology.

A 1-mile fun run will be held at 1:30 p.m. with prizes awarded to random participants.

A surprise contest involving "a change to exercise your creative genius" will take place from 1:20 to 2:30 p.m.

GPC students will also be competing in poetry, politics and art contests.
