Former Heritage standout Jaquas Dobbs picked up another postseason honor in his final season at Truett-McConnell.
Dobbs, a sophomore, was one of 12 players selected to represent the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association (GJCAA) in the Georgia/Florida JUCO All-Star Game. He scored 13 points in Georgia's 107-89 loss to Florida. The forward averaged 12.6 points and 7.0 rebounds a game this year for the Bears. He shot 57 percent from the field and 73 percent from the free-throw line. Dobbs, who was honorable mention all-GJCAA, finished fourth in the league in field goal percentage this season. GOLF Jones finishes 16th in tournament for Mercer Former Heritage standout Bill Jones tied for 16th individually with Mercer teammate Ryan Blackburn at the Linger Longer Invitational last weekend at Reynolds Landing in Greensboro. As a team, Mercer finished tied for 11th in the event with South Alabama. During the first round of competition, Jones shot a 3-under-par 69 and recorded four birdies, which was good enough for seventh place. In the second round, he shot a 1-over-par 73 and he added a 5-over-par 77 in the final round. BASEBALL McCalley pitching well for Berry Heritage's Matt McCalley had a big week as a relief pitcher for Berry College. The sophomore right-hander picked up the victory with two perfect innings of relief against Belhaven on Tuesday as Berry rallied for a 3-2 victory in the game played in Thomasville. He is now 3-0 this season. On Wednesday, McCalley recorded the save for the Vikings in a 5-3 win at Thomas College. He worked the final inning and recorded one strikeout for his second save. Last Sunday, he also earned a relief victory in a 20-11 win against Faulkner. Allen shines for South Georgia Salem's Kyle Allen is putting together a productive sophomore season for South Georgia. Allen, an outfielder, is batting .322 with 29 runs, 38 hits, 10 doubles, two home runs and 24 RBIs. He leads the team in total bases (56) and slugging percentage (.475). Allen is second on the squad in stolen bases with 14 steals in 17 tries. His on-base percentage is an impressive .443. He has started all 36 games for South Georgia. Chisman tosses two scoreless innings Freshman Tony Chisman pitched two scoreless innings of relief in Georgia Southern's 17-3 victory over Mercer on Tuesday. The former Salem standout is 0-0 with a 5.91 ERA in eight appearances for South Georgia. SOFTBALL Rice, Hodge spark Lady Jags to second place Two former Eastside players, Christie Rice and Heather Hodge, played key roles in Georgia Perimeter's second-place finish last weekend in the Wallace-Hanceville Tournament in Hanceville, Ala. Rice batted a team-high .437 with six hits, including a home run, while Hodge recorded a team-high seven hits. Chandler notches 13th win for GCSU Junior Mandy Chandler notched her 13th victory of the season in Georgia College and State University's 3-2 win in 10 innings over 10th-ranked Francis Marion on March 12. Chandler tossed a five-hitter, working 10 innings and striking out 13. She is now 13-2 this season with 0.71 ERA. In 1082/3 innings of work, the junior has amassed 163 strikeouts.More like this story
