Lady Seminoles get key win

LOGANVILLE - The Salem girls soccer team took over sole possession of region 8-AAAA South with a 4-2 victory at Loganville on Friday night.

Jordan Young tallied two goals and two assists for the No. 5-ranked Lady Seminoles (7-1 overall, 3-0 in 8-AAAA South).

After No. 11 Loganville took a 1-0 lead in the first half, Young scored off an assist by Brittany Beaumont to tie the game. Young then set up Ashley Miller's goal that gave Salem the lead for good at 2-1.

Meredith Dennis scored later in the first half off a feed from Brittany Miller, giving Salem a 3-1 halftime advantage.

After Loganville cut the deficit to 3-2 in the second half, Young struck again, this time on a breakaway.

Salem returns to action today at 1 p.m. against Oconee County at Reid Memorial Stadium.

Four Heritage pitchers combine for no-hitter

DACULA - Tyler Austin, Chase Ware, Scott Korczyk and Anthony Bazzani combined on a no-hitter as No. 4-ranked Heritage (8-2 overall, 8-0 in Region 8-AAAA) cruised to a 13-0 victory over Dacula on Friday.

Austin worked the first two innings for the Patriots followed by single innings from Ware, Korczyk and Bazzani.

Offensively, Austin, a sophomore, hit two home runs for Heritage, which hosts No. 5-ranked Salem on Monday at 6 p.m. at Danny Blue Field.

Salem chalks up 6-2 win in Winder

WINDER - Drew Dentler tossed a complete game on the mound and Brandon Crumbley homered for the second straight game as No. 5-ranked Salem secured a 6-2 win over Winder-Barrow on Friday.

Dustin Dunlop drove in two runs for the Seminoles, while Jake Dyer added two hits and an RBI. The Seminoles also scored two runs on balks by Winder-Barrow.

Crumbley's homer, a solo shot, came in the top of the seventh.

Salem boys blank Loganville

LOGANVILLE - Kwazi Yankey and Nate Pulliam scored two goals to lead the Salem boys (7-2-1 overall, 3-0 in 8-AAAA South) to a 7-0 victory over Loganville on Friday night.

Koy Manget, Brian Jones and Sam Ahonen also scored for the Seminoles, who return to action Tuesday at Pike County in Zebulon.

Blake Whitson and Daniel Aguilar each chipped in two assists for Salem, while Yankey, Manget and Jonathan Ryon also tallied assists.


Robinson relief sparks Jackets

ATLANTA - Reliever Andrew Robinson scattered four hits over four shutout innings to lead Georgia Tech to a 5-4 victory over Duke Friday night.

It was the seventh scoreless appearance of the season for Robinson.
