Former Heritage standout Josh James helped the Kennesaw State men's track team make school history at the A-Sun Indoor Track Championship at Johnson City, Tenn.
James, a freshman, finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.82 seconds, which earned second-team all-conference honors. He also finished fourth in the 200 with a time of 22.43 seconds.
Fellow Heritage alum, Michael Gunter, took fifth place in the 800 meters with a time of 1 minute, 57.41 seconds for the Owls.
KSU won the team championship to become the Owls' first men's program to earn a Division I conference championship.
In the women's meet, Soibhan Wolcott, also from Heritage, recorded a pair of fifth-place finishes for the Lady Owls in the 800-meter run (2 minutes, 23:84 seconds) and the mile run (5 minutes, 19:38 seconds).
The KSU women finished sixth in their meet.
Chandler tosses no-hitter for Lady Bobcats
Eastside's Mandy Chandler is continuing to dominate on the mound for Georgia State College and University.
Last Saturday, Chandler tossed the first complete-game no-hitter of her college career, beating California (Pa.) 2-0 in the Patriot Invitational at Florence, S.C.
Chandler struck out 13 batters and issued three walks in the victory. Last year, she combined for a no-hitter in a win over Clark Atlanta.
Last Sunday, Chandler tossed another complete game, leading the Lady Bobcats to a 7-3 victory over Adelphi.
Lee still hot at plate for Georgia State
Freshman Catherine Lee is still making a big impact for Georgia State this spring.
The former Eastside standout belted a grand slam home run and drove in five runs in the Panthers' 12-4 victory over Mercer on Wednesday.
Lee is batting .421 with a team-high nine home runs and 35 RBIs.
Last weekend, she was named to the all-tournament team at the FSU Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla. Lee had five hits in the tournament.
Whitenton chalks up save for Darton
Heritage's Taylor Whitenton chalked up his first career save at Darton in a 7-5 victory over South Georgia on Wednesday.
Whitenton also chipped in an RBI single for the Cavaliers.
His fellow Heritage teammate, Trent Dooley, remains hot at the plate for Darton, batting a team-high .371 with two home runs and 18 RBIs.
Huff contributes for Lawson in tournament
Salem's Kristina Huff turned in back-to-back strong performances for Lawson State Community College in the Alabama Community College Conference Tournament.
Huff had eight points, five rebounds and four steals in a 72-53 victory over Chattahoochee Valley on March 6.
On March 7, Huff chipped in nine points, four assists and four rebounds in a 95-59 loss to Shelton State that ended Lawson State's season.
