The Porterdale Train Depot was recently renovated by the city to serve as a community facility and as the trail head of the countywide multi-use trail system that is currently under construction. According to Porterdale City Manager Tom Fox, construction on the project is nearly complete, however, the grant the city received from the Georgia Department of Transportation wasn't enough to cover all the costs. He said it is hoped there will be enough community support to finish it. Once completed, the city hopes the depot can be used as a meeting place for civic organizations and other community activities. It is also hoped that the depot can house an interactive history museum highlighting Porterdale and the textile industry.More like this story
