Foundation seeks nominations for award

COVINGTON - The Newton Fund of the The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta announced that it is seeking nominations for the first annual Pat Patrick Big Heart Award.

The award will recognize and honor an individual who gives back to the community through service and volunteer time with local nonprofit agencies.

The Community Foundation's mission of "Connecting Passion with Purpose" and of "making raging philanthropists of everyone" embodies not only the art of giving one's dollars to strengthen a community, but giving one's time and talents through service as well, said Tamara Richardson, eastern region outreach director for The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta.

The award is named in honor of The Community Foundation/Newton Fund's founding chairman, Joseph E. "Pat" Patrick, a person who has given unselfishly and generously to the Newton community for many years, Richardson said.

The award is open to any individual who is volunteering or who has volunteered previously to strengthen the Newton County community through good works. Nominees must not receive any salary or compensation of any kind for their nominated volunteer work.

Current Community Foundation Board of Trustee members are ineligible for nomination. Only those trustees who have been off the Newton Fund Board of Trustees for a minimum of five years are eligible.

All nominated applicant forms will be reviewed by a sub-committee of the Newton Fund of The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta. The selected winner will be recognized at a reception. Additionally, the winner will be presented with a $2,000 grant check to award to a Newton nonprofit agency of their choice.

Nomination forms will be due to The Community Foundation Office by 5 p.m. on April 14.

The winner will be announced and honored at a reception to be held on May 13. The designated nonprofit agency to receive the grant award will also be honored at the reception.

Nomination forms can be picked up at The Community Foundation Office or by calling 770-788-2250. Completed nomination forms should be mailed to: The Community Foundation/Newton Fund, 2104 Washington St., P.O. Box 87, Covington, Ga. 30015.
