Cyclists from Covington and Conyers join in the Georgia Ride to the Capitol to promote bicycling Tuesday morning. Trent Spake, co-owner of Conte's Bicycles and Fitness Equipment in Conyers, leads the way through Olde Town. Also pictured are, from back, Ab Roesel, Maurice Carter and Steve Alexander. The ride was 85 miles round trip from Covington and 61 miles from Conyers. It took riders four hours and 16 minutes to complete the journey from Conyers, at an average speed of 14.2 miles per hour. The event drew more than 1,500 riders from throughout the metro Atlanta area. About 35 local riders participated, including Covington Mayor Kim Carter and Conyers Councilman Vince Evans, who joined the ride in Decatur.More like this story
