COVINGTON - A 40-year-old Monroe woman was killed Monday morning following a single car accident on Ga. Highway 138 near Gum Creek Road.
Authorities said the victim was traveling east on Ga. 138 shortly after 5 a.m. when her vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree. When deputies arrived at the scene, the victim, who had been ejected through the windshield, was dead. According to Lt. Mark Mitchell, spokesman for the Newton County Sheriff's Office, the cause of the accident has yet to be determined and remains under investigation. Authorities said that whether or not the victim was properly restrained or if she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be known until the accident investigation is complete.
