Salem holds off Loganville 8-7 LOGANVILE - The Salem baseball team improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in Region 8-AAAA by holding on for an 8-7 victory over host Loganville on Friday night. The Seminoles jumped out to an 8-1 lead before the Red Devils' rally came up short in the bottom of the seventh. Drew Dentler sparked Salem with a home run and an RBI single. Dustin Dunlop also chipped in a 3-for-5 effort at the plate for the Seminoles. Starting pitcher Jake Dyer picked up the victory for Salem, tossing 41/3 innings. Dentler worked the final 22/3 innings in relief. Salem returns to action at 6 p.m. Monday at home against Habersham Central. State Tech wins final regular season game BOSTON - Jeremis Smith had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead Georgia Tech to an 86-78 victory over Boston College on Saturday as the two schools finished their regular season and prepared for the ACC tournament. Georgia Tech (14-16, 7-9) finished in seventh place in the conference heading into next week's tournament in Charlotte, N.C. Boston College (13-16, 4-12) lost its last six games and 12 of its last 13 to drop into 11th (with a tiebreaker edge over North Carolina State) in the 12-team ACC. Tyrese Rice scored 17 with eight assists for the Eagles, who had earned a NCAA tournament berth in four consecutive seasons. Unless they win the ACC tournament - a tall task with top-ranked North Carolina and No. 6 Duke in the way - that streak will almost certainly end.More like this story
