Newton County Fire Service firefighters are saying a thunderstorm that pushed through the county Sunday afternoon is responsible for this fire at 3983 Ga. Highway 81 S. Deputy Chief Tim Smith said the call came in from a neighbor about 3:30 p.m. Firefighters arrived at the scene about seven minutes later to find the roof ablaze. He said it took them about an hour to bring the fire under control. The residents were not home at the time of the lightning strike and no one was injured.More like this story
