Health Reports 6/24/2008

The following food service establishment inspection reports were provided by the Environmental Health Division of the Rockdale County Health Department and the Newton County Health Department. Restaurants that score from 90 to 100 get a letter grade A; those that rate 80-89 get a B; a tally of 70-79 is a C; and below 70 is a U, or unacceptable. A restaurant scoring 70 or above is allowed to operate if there are no critical violations. If a facility is rated U on consecutive inspections, it must close and the owner must prove that it can be operated safely before reopening is allowed.

· Wing Cafe, 96-A, 13015 Brown Bridge Road, Covington, Date: May 7

Violations: Date mark all potentially hazardous foods after opening.

· First Choice Jamaican, 83-B, 3277 Salem Road, Covington, Date: May 12

Violations: Juice from unapproved source. Date mark all potentially hazardous foods in refrigerator stored for 24 hours or longer. Wiping cloths must be stored in sanitizer while not in use. Need sanitizer test strips to measure sanitizer.

· Los Charros Mexican, 65-U, 1965 Ga. Highway 138, Conyers, Date: May 22

Violations: Employees changing gloves without washing hands. Employee touched ready-to-eat food with bare hand. Open drink observed over prep area. Food items in walk-in cooler not stored properly. Mold-like substance observed in ice maker. Items in walk-in not date marked as required. Bulk items stored in unlabeled container. Not in compliance with Georgia Smoke Free Air Act. Scoop handles observed stored in product. Wet utensils observed stored stacked one on another. Employee observed wiping gloves on soiled towels.

· The Celtic Tavern, 95-A, 918 Commercial St., Conyers, Date: May 22

Violations: Employee had open drink in prep area. Inspection report not posted. Food service permit not posted.

· 3rd Base Sports Grill, 91-A, 2174 Salem Road, Conyers, Date: May 22

Violations: Several items not been held at the correct temperature.

· Los Charros Mexican Restaurant, 74-C, 3560 Ga. Highway 20, Conyers, Date: May 22

Violations: Ready-to-eat rice cooked and placed on raw meat prep table. Salsa, pork and beef in walk-in cooler not holding at the correct temperature. Potentially hazardous foods held in facility more than 24 hours, not date marked. Personal radios, CD's stored on food prep table. In-use scoops for spices not stored with handles up out of product.

· La Oxaquena Tacqueria, 54-U, 1085 Irwin Bridge Road, Conyers, Date: May 22

Violations: Person in charge not performing duties. Employee observed not washing hands before handling ready-to-eat food. Employee observed touching ready-to-eat foods with bare hands. Raw broken shell eggs stored over salsa. Open ready-to-bake pastry stored uncovered. Raw beef stored over container of sauces. Meat slicer with food debris and build up. Several items not holding at the correct temperature. Potentially hazardous foods kept in facility more than 24 hours not properly date marked. Bulk food containers not properly labeled with both English and Spanish. Food stored in outside storage container that is not vented, sealed or regulated. No signage posted for hand washing or choking poster. Signage for no smoking not posted.

· La Oxaquena Tacqueria - Recheck, 79-C, Date: May 30

Violations: Person in charge not present. Cold hold foods not held at the proper temperature. Bulk items not in original containers, stored in unlabeled containers. Food items stored in not sealed, non-climate controlled containers. Not in compliance with Georgia Smoke Free Air Act. Non-handled dispensing utensil stored in product.

· Mandarin Palace, 78-C, 3116 U.S. Highway 278, Covington, Date: June 12.

Violations: Separate raw meats from ready-to-eat foods. Keep bulk dry foods covered with lids. Improper dish washing of dishes. Improper cooling methods. Need digital thermometer. Wiping cloths need to stay in sanitizer buckets when not in use. Need hand washing signs at handsinks. Air dry all dishes before storing. Need sanitizer test strips for testing sanitizer.
