Conyers' Elliott wins AJGA event
WINDER - Conyers' Hunter Elliott won a scorecard playoff to claim first place in the nine-hole open boys 12-and-under division at the Atlanta Junior Golf Association event Thursday at The Chimneys.
Elliott shot a 36, the same score as Duluth's Benjamin Shipp.
Earlier in the week, Elliott finished third in the AJGA event at Eagle's Landing Country Club. He shot a 42.
Also on Monday, Heritage golfer Harrison Elliott finished second in the 18-hole open boys 13-14 divsion in the AJGA event at Honey Creek Country Club. Elliott shot a 75, one shot behind Atlanta's Cameron Winders at 74.
Thornton, Lowry finish in fifth at AMS' Thursday Thunder
HAMPTON - Oxford's Randy Thornton and Covington's Kyle Lowry finished in fifth in their races at Atlanta Motor Speedway's Thursday Thunder.
Matt Stover, of Gastonia, N.C., held the pole position for the Charter Communications pro feature. On the second lap, Lowry bumped and jumped past Stover to claim the early advantage. Stover fought back to the lead on lap nine, but Brooks' Billy Fulson became the race's new leader a lap later. Fulson extended his lead to 20-car lengths to win the race and retain his points lead in the series.
Thornton came across the finish line in the middle of the pack in the masters division.
