A 3 a.m. blaze erupted at 489 Fincher Road on Thursday, but when Newton County Fire Service firefighters arrived, the house was "fully involved," according to Fire Chief Mike Satterfield. He said the only thing firefighters could do was take on a defensive mode and "put a ladder truck up and just keep throwing water on it." He said the house, which had been vacant for some time and did not have electric power, was destroyed. Satterfield said the first units spent part of their time putting out woods and grass fires and making sure the fire was contained to the one building. The 1,200-square-foot frame house was valued at somewhere between $20,000 and $25,000. Satterfield said the fire is being termed "suspicious," and an investigation into the cause of the blaze is being conducted.More like this story
