CONYERS - Mississippi State sprinter Jamil Hubbard claimed the men's 400-meter dash title on the final day of the Southeastern Conference Track and Field Championship.

The former Salem standout posted a time of 45.24 seconds, which is a personal best and the fourth fastest time in Mississippi State history. Hubbard is only the second Bulldog to win an event at the conference meet, joining Jude Moyne in 1995.

Hubbard, who won a state championship in the 400 during his senior year at Salem, also played a key role in helping Mississippi State's 400- and 1,600-meter relay teams qualify for the NCAA Mideast Regional.

The Bulldogs finished third in the 400 with a time of 39.42 seconds and third in the 1,600 with a time of

3 minutes, 5.26 seconds.

Hubbard is trying to earn a berth in the upcoming NCAA Championships at this weekend's NCAA Mideast Regional at John McDonnell Field on the University of Arkansas campus.

Juin produces strong

freshman season at Allen CC

Heritage product Jonathan Juin recently completed a stellar freshman season at Allen County Community College in Iola, Kansas.

Juin produced the best outdoor times in the 100-meter dash (10.30 seconds), the 200-meter dash (21.81 seconds) and the 400-meter dash (50.49 seconds) this spring for the Red Devils.

During the indoor season, Juin set a school record of 21.81 seconds in the 200-meter dash.

KSU men claim A-Sun title

Heritage's Josh James, Michael Guntner and Jeremy Easley helped Kennesaw State claim the Atlantic Sun Conference championship in outdoor track.

James earned first-team all-conference honors as part of the Owls' first-place finish in the 1,600-meter relay. The team's time of 3 minutes, 18 seconds was a full 5 seconds in front of their closest competitors.

James, a freshman, also earned second-team all-conference honors by placing second in the 400-meter dash (49.07) and second in the 400-meter relay (41.78). He also placed seventh in the 200-meter dash (22.48 seconds).

Guntner placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1 minute, 55.35 seconds.

Easley added a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (57.42 seconds) and a seventh-place in the 110-meter hurdles (15.31 seconds).

Wolcott finishes second

in 800 at A-Sun

Former Heritage standout Soibhan Wolcott came up a little short in her quest for back-to-back 800-meter titles in the Atlantic Sun Conference Outdoor Championships.

Wolcott, a sophomore, placed second in the 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 15.53 seconds, finishing behind Jacksonville University's Janel Grooms. With her finish, Wolcott earned second-team all-conference honors.

Chandler picks up first

All-American honor

Georgia College and State University pitcher Mandy Chandler has earned her first All-American honor of her stellar career.

The junior was named to the Daktronics All-America second team. The Daktronics All-America squads are voted on by the nation's sports information directors.

The former Eastside standout had an impressive season for the Lady Bobcats. She finished eighth in the nation in ERA (0.98), sixth in hits per seven innings (3.70), 11th in strikeouts per seven innings (9.2) and 22nd in wins (25). She led the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) in victories, earned run average and strikeouts.

Chandler's efforts played a key role in the Lady Bobcats' first PBC Championship.

Allen signs scholarship

with GCSU

Salem product Kyle Allen will be continuing his collegiate baseball career at Georgia College and State University next season.

The Bobcats signed Allen after he completed a stellar sophomore season at South Georgia College. This year, Allen hit .315 with 18 doubles, four triples and four home runs. He collected 48 RBIs and chipped in 21 stolen bases. He compiled an on-base percentage of .430 thanks in part to 42 walks.

Korczyk named to Peach Belt sportsmanship team

Heritage's Stevi Korczyk has been named to the 2007-08 Peach Belt Conference All-Sportsmanship Team.

Korczyk, a sophomore, is a cross country runner at Georgia Southwestern University.

One female and one male athlete from each of the league's 11 member schools were place on the team, which was created in 2006 to spotlight student-athletes who demonstrate consistently good sportsmanship and ethical behavior in their participation in PBC athletics and good sportsmanship outside of their sports setting.

Korczyk is also faring well in the classroom. She was named a PBC Presidential Honor Roll honoree.
