N.J. resident suspected in molestation

COVINGTON - A New Jersey man is being held in the Newton County Detention Center in connection with the alleged molestation of two young boys, according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office.

William Patrick Mayer, 26, of Morristown, N.J., was arrested and charged with aggravated child molestation and aggravated sodomy in connection with the incident or incidents which allegedly occurred at the children's home. Mayer is a relative of the two boys.

Investigator Sharron Stewart said the parents of the boys were told of the molestation when another relative died, and one of the boys said he "liked" the dead man better than Mayer. When questioned, the parents were told of the alleged molestation and they, in turn, notified authorities.

After the boys were examined and interviewed, warrants for Mayer's arrest were obtained and sent to New Jersey, Stewart said.
