SNELLVILLE - A 13-year-old boy died after about two hours of conditioning for the upcoming Gwinnett Football League season.
Ted Bailey, chief investigator for the county medical examiner, said Jacheem Xavier died at 9:45 p.m. Monday at Eastside Medical Center. Bailey said results of tests to determine the cause could take 12 weeks, but 'there's no evidence it's a heat-related death.' The 6-foot-1, 230-pound eighth-grader was with teammates at Shiloh High School. Youth league president Erik Richards said he began vomiting shortly after a two-hour workout that began at 7 p.m. and then lost consciousness. Richards said it is the first on-field death in his 19 years with the league.More like this story
