COVINGTON - The Newton County Sheriff's Office has identified the murder victim in last week's triple shooting at 86 Kirkland Road as 17-year-old Joseph Matthew Miller.
Delaney Douglas Robinson, 22, of 451 Valley Hill Road, Riverdale, has been charged with felony murder, murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in connection with Miller's death and the wounding of two others.
The two wounded men - one of whom is 18 and the other 19 - have been released from the hospital and are expected to recover from their injuries, according to Investigator Sonny Goodson.
Goodson said it appears the shooting, which occurred about 2:45 p.m. July 15, stemmed from an argument between the suspect and the murdered man.
"There was an altercation between the victim and the suspect and shots were fired," Goodson said, adding that investigators found three spent rounds at the scene that they believe came from a .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun that was used in the shooting.
Goodson said one of the victims lived at the location with his parents, while the suspect and the other two victims were visiting. Goodson said the investigation is continuing and declined to give any details on the argument that apparently led to the shooting.
At the time of the incident, NCSO spokesman Lt. Mark Mitchell said deputies were dispatched to the residence when a caller contacted 911 and said three people had been shot. When deputies arrived, they found Miller dead and the two others wounded. The suspect was located at a nearby business and arrested without incident.
