Elliot earns third AJGA victory

LOCUST GROVE - Conyers' Hunter Elliott collected his third win this summer in the Atlanta Junior Golf Association (AJGA) by prevailing Wednesday in the nine-hole open boys 12-and-under division at Canongate at Heron Bay Golf Club.

Elliott shot a 2-over-par 38 on the back nine at Heron Bay to claim a four-stroke victory. His final score included the only birdie in his division during Wednesday's competition. It came on the par-4, 255-yard No. 15 hole. Elliott's scorecard also had six pars, one bogey and one double bogey.

His other AJGA victories this summer have come at The Chimneys Golf Course and The Creek at Hard Labor. He has won three of his four starts.

Richt suspends player after arrest

ATHENS - Georgia defensive end Michael Lemon was suspended by coach Mark Richt on Thursday after he was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery and felony aggravated battery.

Lemon's arrest followed an alleged fight with another University of Georgia student on Saturday. Lemon allegedly punched DeMarius Jackson, who suffered a fractured left eye socket.

Seven Georgia players have been arrested since the end of the 2007 season.

Marino takes 1-shot lead at AT&T

BETHESDA, Md. - Steve Marino used to consider it a treat the few times he played Congressional as a teenager. It was a thrill on Thursday to play bogey-free in the first round of the AT&T National and shoot 5-under 65 for a one-shot lead.

Marino, who grew up a half-hour away in Fairfax, Va., birdied three of his opening four holes, never had a par putt longer than 5 feet and finished off his round with an 8-foot birdie to be in the lead after any round for only the second time in his career.
