Gunshot victim dies from complications Suspect now facing murder charge

COVINGTON - Newton County recorded its first murder of the New Year on Friday morning following the death of 38-year-old Dennis Rogers, who was shot in the back of the head during an armed robbery earlier this week.

COVINGTON - Eight Monticello residents, along with one Griffin man, are facing charges of theft by taking and criminal trespass after they were reportedly caught by Newton County authorities stealing scrap metal earlier this week.

Garden Club holds holiday meeting

The Conyers Garden Club met at the home of Susan Dodd on Nov. 13, with Susan Hicks and Joyce Andrews as hostesses. The members received a most informative program led by Elaine Nash of the Georgia Exotic Pest Plant Council. Ms. Nash discussed and identified native intrusive plants. She also gave the names and habitats of many Georgia native plants. These were pointed out as the members walked through the woods to the lake on Ms. Dodd's property.
