Fees set for qualifying

COVINGTON - Qualifying fees have been set for Election 2008.

County offices up for election include the Board of Commissioners' chairman's seat, along with three district seats, two Board of Education seats, sheriff tax commissioner, clerk of court, probate judge and coroner.

Fees are set at three percent of the minimum salary for all offices, with the exception of coroner and Board of Education districts, which are three percent of the total gross salary of the office paid in the preceding calendar year.

The fees set by the Board of Commissioners on Jan. 15 are as follows:

· BOC chairman: $2,528.87

· BOC Districts 1, 3 and 5: $469.48

· Board of Education Districts 2 and 4: $216

· Sheriff: $2,347.43

· Tax commissioner: $2,034.01

· Clerk of court: $2,034.01

· Coroner: $704.06

Qualifying takes place April 28 to May 2. Candidates must qualify with their local parties. Hours and locations for qualifying have not yet been set, according to the local Republican and Democratic party chairs.

Qualifying fees are split between the local parties, which use the money to support candidates' campaigns, and the Board of Elections.

The general primary takes place July 15, with the primary runoff set for Aug. 5. The General Election is Nov. 4.
