Newton County's murder rate took another hit Wednesday morning with the violent death of a young man and woman.
Newton County Sheriff's Office deputies went to a residence in the Falls subdivision at 695 Freeman Drive around 9:30 Tuesday night after they were alerted that one of the two victims had failed to show up at work. There they found two bodies - a female and male victim, believed to be a boyfriend and girlfriend, both in their early to mid-20s. Early Wednesday the names were not released pending notification of the next of kin. Newton County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Bill Watterson said there did not appear to be forcible entry into the house, which is owned by one of the victims, and there was no early indication that drugs were involved in the incident. He also declined to comment on the cause of death. Authorities ask that anyone with knowledge of the incident call the NCSO at 678-625-1403. Tips can be given to the NCSO anonymously at 678-625-5007 or visit the Web at www.newtonsheriffga.org and click on "anonymous tip line."
