Heritage teams, Salem girls collect victories

CONYERS - All six Rockdale County basketball teams were on the road this weekend in various hardcourt action.

Rockdale's squads traveled to Loganville to take on the Red Devils, Heritage hit the road to take on Oconee County and Salem took on Mt. Zion-Jonesboro.

The results also varied.

Heritage's squads swept Oconee, while Loganville did the same to Rockdale. Salem collected a split in its twin bill with Mt. Zion.

The Heritage boys moved to 10-4 on the season with a 76-50 win, while the Heritage girls improved to 9-4 with a 59-53 victory.

Juron Dobbs led the Patriots with an impressive 33-point, 11-rebound effort. Justin Jones added 10 points and 12 rebounds. Key Wade (14 points) and Shakeem Mitchell (12) rounded out Heritage's top scorers.

Precious Elkins led the Lady Patriots with 22 points. Elkins was 8-for-12 from the field and 6-for-7 from the free throw line.

The Salem girls improved to 7-5 on the season after blowing out Mt. Zion 67-27.

Courtney Hurt finished with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Jasmine Patrick had 11 points and Rebecca Mitchell added 10.

"We played really well defensively and got into a good rhythm offensively," Salem girls coach Bill Roberts said.

Meanwhile, the Salem boys (5-7) dropped a close decision, falling 43-41.

"We were rusty coming out of the break. We did a fairly good job keeping them off the scoreboard, but we need to be consistent on offense," Salem boys coach Darren Wilkins said. "Some games we score in the 70s and others we struggle."

Zach Roddenberry led the offensive charge with 14 points.

The Rockdale boys dropped a 79-64 decision to Loganville, who moved to 12-2 on the season after beating the Bulldogs.

"They (Loganville) knocked down their shots and they ran the fast break on us," Rockdale boys coach Mitchell Harris said. "They were a very well-schooled team."

Darius McKnight led Rockdale with 16 points and 16 rebounds.

Meanwhile, the Rockdale girls fell 58-32 to the Lady Red Devils. The Lady Bulldogs are now 4-7 on the season.
