CONYERS - A Porterdale man accused of dragging a woman with his car while attempting to snatch her purse has been arrested by Conyers police, but he could face further charges by sheriffs' offices in Rockdale and Newton counties.
Larry Steven Walden, 35, of 32-B Ivey St., Porterdale, was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with robbery, aggravated assault, loitering and prowling.
According to Conyers Police Department Major Scott Freeman, police responded to the Wal-Mart parking lot in Conyers around 9:15 p.m. Saturday. A woman said that as she was loading purchased items into her car, a man drove by in a green car, reached out the driver's side window and grabbed the purse that was on her arm.
"As the suspect pulled away, he (dragged) the victim with him and caused her to fall to the ground," Freeman said in an e-mailed response to information. "The victim did sustain a minor cut and some bruising on her hand from falling to the ground."
The victim told the officer that the suspect was a white man, who was wearing a baseball cap and white T-shirt.
A witness at the scene provided the officer with a description of the suspect's vehicle and the license tag number. Freeman said a Rockdale County Sheriff's Office deputy arrested Walden after seeing his vehicle at the rear of Rockdale Gymnastics on Old Covington Highway around 2 a.m. Sunday.
Freeman said the investigation surrounding the incident is ongoing. He said the RCSO, as well as the Newton County Sheriff's Office, are investigating other crimes in which Walden may have been involved.
