The Rev. C.H. Glover of Shady Grove Baptist Church was dispatched by his wife to Johnson's Super Market on Washington Street for a very important assignment - he was to get a supply of fresh collard greens and black-eyed peas for New Year's. Tradition has it that those who eat collards, will have plenty of "green backs" during the year and the black-eyed peas are to bring good luck.
