Lady Pats top Tucker, head to title game

The Heritage girls advanced to the championship game in the American Girls Division at the DeKalb County Holiday Basketball Tournament with a 41-33 victory over Tucker on Monday.

In boys action, Rockdale dropped a 77-73 decision to host Dacula in its final game at the Dacula Round Robin Tournament.

Meanwhile, the Eastside girls posted a 73-38 victory over Howard in the second round of the Great Southern Shootout.


Heritage 41, Tucker 33

At Decatur, the Lady Patriots (6-5) notched their fourth straight victory by topping the Lady Tigers in the DeKalb County Holiday Basketball Tournament.

Shaddai Wiggs had 14 points to lead the Lady Patriots. Sarah Herrington finished with 11.

The Lady Patriots return to action today in the championship game at 4 p.m. against Lithonia at Cross Keys High School.

"We struggled, but, under the circumstances we face, we did what we had to do," Heritage coach Dave LaBarrie said. "We have three starters out with injuries and we've got one playing hurt."

Eastside 73, Howard 38

At Macon, Jjade Cook tossed in team-high 17 points as the Lady Eagles (3-4) cruised to an easy victory in the Great Southern Shootout at Westside Macon High School.

Eastside concludes tournament play at 1:30 p.m. today against Stone Mountain.

Raven Williams added 11 points for the Lady Eagles, while Paige Alexander finished with 10.

"We played really well today. I thought we were able to get out in transition," Eastside coach Jason Grooms said. "We actually scored 29 points in the fourth quarter, which is really good for us. We did a really good job on the glass and got some extra shots."


Dacula 77, Rockdale 73

At Dacula, Julies Giles tossed in a team-high 21 points, including six 3-pointers, as the Bulldogs (8-3) fell to the host Falcons on the final day of the Dacula Round Robin Tournament.

Nate Gissentanner added 13 points for Rockdale, while Kevin Ware chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds.

The Bulldogs return to action at 4 p.m. Monday in the opening round of the Sweet South Classic in Madison. Rockdale will face Riverdale.
