The Heritage boys opened play in the Henry County Classic with a 51-46 victory victory over Dutchtown on Friday night.
Meanwhile, the Rockdale boys saw their opening game in the Dacula Round Robin Tournament canceled due to a scheduling conflict. In girls action, Rockdale dropped a 63-43 decision to Berkmar in the Dacula tournament. BOYS Heritage 51, Dutchtown 46 At McDonough, senior guard Shakeem Mitchell fired in a team-high 20 points as the Patriots (6-4) advanced to the semfinals of the Henry County Classic. Heritage will play the winner of Friday night's late game between Morgan County and Eagle's Landing at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the semifinals. Junior Garry Peters chipped 12 points for Heritage, while senior center Justin Jones finished with nine. The victory moved Heritage coach Ron Bradley one step closer to another milestone in his illustrious career. He is now just one win away from notching his 1,000th victory in boys basketball competition. Rockdale vs. Cedar Shoals, ppd. At Dacula, the Bulldogs (7-2) were scheduled to play Cedar Shoals in the opening round of the Dacula Round Robin Tournament. However, the Jaguars had a scheduling conflict, hosting Tri-Cities in Athens for a regular season contest. Cedar Shoals sent its ninth-grade team in place of its varsity squad, but Rockdale opted not to play. The game would have been a rematch of Tuesday's contest in which the Jaguars snapped the Bulldogs' seven-game winning streak with a 64-58 victory in a Region 8-AAAA crossover game. Rockdale will face Mill Creek today at 4:30 p.m. in the tournament. GIRLS Berkmar 63, Rockdale 43 At Dacula, Miasia Burks tossed in a team-high 12 points for the Lady Bulldogs (1-9) in their opening game of the Dacula Round Robin Tournament.
