Newton County Farm Bureau wins award

MACON - The Newton County Farm Bureau received the Georgia Farm Bureau Outstanding Young Farmer Committee Award during the organization's 70th annual convention held Dec. 7 through 9 on Jekyll Island. The Newton County Committee competed against committees from nine other districts for the state honor. This is the 12th consecutive year the committee has won the award.

COVINGTON - Friday was the last day of the first semester of the 2008-09 school year for students in the Newton County School System.

County to condemn land for Bear Creek

COVINGTON - County commissioners approved a resolution Tuesday night to condemn property owned by Emmett Denby in order to construct Bear Creek Reservoir. The land is the last residential property the county must acquire to build the reservoir.
