COVINGTON - The Newton County Home Builders Association recently hosted its third annual Scholarship Sporting Clay Shoot at Burge Plantation.
The HBA uses the funds earned from this event to give scholarships to graduating seniors from Newton, Eastside and Alcovy high schools, as well as students of the HBA's members. The HBA also contributes $500 to their two Partners in Education, Livingston Elementary and Oak Hill Elementary, to purchase library books. In 2007, the HBA assisted the efforts of Newton READS and The Learning Center by donating $500 to each of those organizations. The Newton County HBA began awarding $500 scholarships to college bound seniors in 1996. In the past 12 years the HBA has given more than $26,000 to high school students, their Partners in Education and other community groups. In 2005, the HBA chose to host a sporting clay shoot to raise funds for their scholarship efforts. For more information on the HBA's scholarship, call the HBA at 770-786-3333.More like this story
