COVINGTON - Tickets are on sale for the Covington-Newton County Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting, set for Jan. 20 at Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center.
The meeting is the start of a new business year for the Chamber and is also one of the organization's primary fund raisers.
The keynote speaker for this year's event will be Brigadier Gen. C. Stewart Rodeheaver, who serves as the Deputy Commanding General of the 1st Army. Rodeheaver is responsible for the training, readiness oversight and mobilization of National Guard and Reserve units in the continental United States and two U.S. territories. Most recently, he served as the Commander of the 48th Brigade Combat Team, Georgia Army National Guard, where he deployed his unit in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Rodeheaver's topic will be "Leadership Through Volunteerism."
The Chamber's mission is to give back to the community, and organizer's wanted this year's annual meeting dedicated to the many volunteers who make that possible, Programs Director Lisa Oglesby said.
Rodeheaver came highly recommended by Chamber members who have heard him speak, she said.
Also on the evening's agenda is the naming of the recipients of the Dick James Small Business of the Year; The Spirit of Excellence Award; and the R.O. Arnold Award.
Membership to the Chamber is not required to attend, Oglesby said.
Social hour will begin at 6:30 p.m., with dinner to be served at 7 p.m. Tara Foods is catering.
Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center is located at 543 Elliott Trail in Mansfield.
Tickets are $55 per person or $1,000 for a sponsorship, which buys a table of eight.
