Of the four games played Saturday, the Lady Seminoles were the only ones to walk off the court with a victory.

Salem topped Columbus on the road 56-46 to keep their winning streak alive at eight.

Meanwhile, the Alcovy girls lost to Jonesboro 59-41.

In boys action, Salem dropped a disappointing 67-62 decision while battling difficult circumstances.

Alcovy was edged by Jonesboro during overtime 40-37 in a low scoring battle.

Girls

Salem 56, Columbus 46

The Lady Seminoles (9-1 overall, 5-0 Region 8B-AAAA) captured their eighth consecutive win over the Lady Blue Devils.

Salem's Precious Elkins scored a game-high 21 points. Jaleen Thomas added 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Jonesboro 59, Alcovy 41

The Lady Tigers (1-4, 1-3) were unable to overcome an 18-point deficit in the waning minutes.

"It turned into a dismal afternoon for us," Alcovy coach Kidada Holtzclaw said. "We jumped off to a good start but found it difficult to contain point guard (Joi Holyfield). We didn't have our usual fire in the third quarter and quickly fell behind further at the beginning of the fourth quarter."

Holyfield scored a game-high 24 points. Jasmine Manning added 11.

Alcovy's Tiffany Moody had a team-high 12 points. Kate Palo chipped in nine.

"We ran out of steam and didn't play with any intensity in the second half," Holtzclaw said. "Our players will have to continue to realize that with being outsized and outnumbered, we have little to no room for error. We have to come ready to play night in and night out."

Boys

Columbus 67, Salem 62

The Seminoles (3-7, 1-4) dropped their fifth straight game of the season in heartbreaking fashion, unable to overcome a five-point lead in the final quarter.

As a result, the Blue Devils improved to 4-0 at home this year.

Due to a family emergency, Salem coach Darren Wilkins was not in attendance.

"This was the game where we came together as a team," Columbus coach Mark Day said. "(It) was a great team defensive effort."

Columbus' Demetrius Jackson scored a game-high 26 points.

Salem will next host Jones County at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Alcovy 37 (OT)

It took overtime before the Tigers (4-2, 3-1) dropped just their second game of the season by a mere three points.

Alcovy will next host Forest Park at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
