Top right, Coroner Bob Wheeler, right, enjoys a joke with longtime friend Artis Standard during Friday afternoon's retirement reception in Wheeler's honor at the Newton County Judicial Center. Well-wishers, family and friends gathered to pay tribute to Wheeler for his 20 years of service as Newton County Coroner. In addition to accolades from friends and co-workers, Wheeler received a plaque of appreciation from the Newton County Sheriff's Office, a proclamation paying tribute to his service to the county and state from Gov. Sonny Perdue, and a flag that flew over the state capitol in his honor.

Bottom right, enjoying one of the "tall tales" told on Wheeler, he is flanked by his family - wife Ann and granddaughter McKayla Doss. Statistics show that Wheeler answered 50 calls as coroner when he began the job in 1989. That number grew to 250 calls in 2008.
