Alcovy to hold meeting for sports parents
People who aren't from around here sometimes have a hard time believing me when I tell them how it was growing up in Porterdale. They just don't get how a little mill village can seem so idyllic. But many of you remember what it was like to live in this area - be it Porterdale or Covington or somewhere "out in the country" back in the '50s and '60s.
LONG POND, Pa. - Little has changed for Kasey Kahne in the last six weeks.
I hear it all the time. "When are you going to retire?" I guess anyone who was born in the 1920s and is still working might get such an inquiry. I have thought about how to answer this question because for the Lord knows today's world is full of many nuisances that would be easy to withdraw from.
ATLANTA - CC Sabathia pitched deep into the game in another terrific outing for Milwaukee, and Prince Fielder hit two home runs Saturday, leading the Brewers to a 4-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves.
CONYERS - The Rockdale County state swim team turned in a spectacular performance at the Georgia Recreation and Park Association state swim meet in Augusta, winning five gold medals.

Hewell threw the opening pitch in memory of his brother, Jake, who died suddenly in May. He was on the mound with his parents, not shown, Maggi and Denny.
I am not an autograph seeker. I just don't see the draw of having a human being write his or her name on a slip of paper to keep for posterity. In my adult life I can only remember asking one person for an autograph, and that person was Bob Hope. I don't know if Bob Hope was in a class by himself as an entertainer and national icon, but I know that whatever class he was in, it didn't take long to call the roll.
PORTERDALE - Confusion over who is responsible for the upkeep of the ballfield in BC Crowell Park led the Porterdale City Council to agree at a work session Thursday night to move toward settling the issue once and for all. The city's ultimate goal is to resume control over use and maintenance of the park.
SOCIAL CIRCLE - Several Newton County landowners have filed to have 334 acres annexed into the city limits of Social Circle.
