Eastside finishes strong at LFO

FORT OGLETHORPE - Eastside's softball team started the LFO Invitational with a loss but finished strong, winning its four final games - including three shutouts - Friday and Saturday.

After losing 1-0 to Marist, which is ranked No. 1 in Class AAAA, the Lady Eagles came back strong with wins over Gordon Lee (3-2), Bremen (5-0), LaFayette (4-0) and Northwest Whitfield (8-0).

"I'm very pleased with how we played this past weekend," Eastside coach Heather Wood said. "We made a lot of adjustments and improvements from last weekend, and we are hoping it will carry over to (today) against Oconee (County)."

Eastside pitcher Amanda Henderson pitched four of the five games, finishing with a 3-1 record.

"Taylor Causey started her first varsity game against Bremen and threw her first shutout as a Lady Eagle," Wood said.

After being shut down offensively by Marist junior Lori Spingola, the Lady Eagles began making contact with their bats. Leading the way for Eastside were Bri Chambers and Sierra Petree.

"We were finally able to get our bats going after the first game against Marist. Marist has one of the best pitchers in the state," Wood said. "I think facing her early helped prepare us for pitching we saw throughout the tournament."
