The Salem boys soccer team dominated the local scene this spring, so it should come as no surprise that the Seminoles are well-represented on the Citizen's 2008 All-Area Boys Soccer Team.
There are seven first-team selections for the Seminoles, and what's more, they also swept the top honors.
Salem midfielder Colin Easterbrook is the Offensive Player of the Year after leading his team in scoring.
His teammate, goalkeeper Trent Carpenter, is Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight year after turning in another strong season.
The Coach of the Year is Salem's Sean DeWeese, who guided his squad to 13-5-1 record and the Region 8-AAAA South title with a perfect 5-0 mark.
A disappointing loss to Dacula in penalty kicks in the Region 8-AAAA semifinals did not stop the Seminoles. They bounced back from that defeat and made school history in the first round of the Class AAAA state playoffs, surviving penalty kicks to notch their first-ever win over St. Pius. In the second round, Salem fell at Alexander 2-1.
All five Salem losses this season were by one goal, including one in overtime to McIntosh and the one in PKs to Dacula.

Kevin Huet (Senior, Heritage): Huet was the Patriots' top defender this spring. The senior also flashed his offensive capabilities at times, picking up eight assists.
Nick Waggoner (Junior, Sweeper): Waggoner's move to sweeper solidified the Tigers' defense, which helped the squad notch a school record seven wins and a trip to the Region 8-AAAA playoffs. He also added five goals and four assists.
