Dailey takes over reins of Lady Seminoles

CONYERS - For the third time in four seasons, the Salem volleyball team will launch a new season with a new coach.

Farrie Dailey has taken over the reins of the Lady Seminoles' program from Krista Robinson, who stepped down at the end of the last year after two seasons.

The Lady Seminoles open their 2008 campaign tonight in a quad match at Monroe Area with Winder-Barrow and Alcovy.

Last year, Salem posted a 10-22 record and lost six seniors to graduation, including Maha Syed, Jenna Brandenburg and Kara Dobbs, who were first-team selections on the Citizen's 2007 All-Area Volleyball Team.

So with the departures, Dailey inherits a young Salem squad for her first season. Some of the key players back this year for the Lady Seminoles are Maura Wells, Erica McLeah, Jessica Chapman, Spencer Papallo, Katelyn Connell, Shallon Hobbs and Truc Hua.

Last year, Papallo cracked the Lady Seminoles' lineup at libero.

"I am predicting nothing but success for the season. I want the girls to play hard and enjoy the game," Dailey said. "I don't have any concerns at this time. The girls are very confident in their abilities to perform well on the court. I can say that we have some very talented young ladies that are returning.

"The team's strengths are dedication, team spirit and their willingness to work together."

Dailey is a relative newcomer to the volleyball coaching ranks. Her only previous experience is serving as an assistant coach for David Buddenbaum at Heritage.

"I love playing and watching the game of volleyball," she said. "My experience is very limited when it comes to coaching. I worked along with David Buddenbaum at Heritage several years ago as an assistant coach. That gave me an introduction into the coaching arena."

Dailey said she plans to emphasize the importance of serving, passing and calling the ball to her squad this season.
