Retiree Jim Turner of Newton County is taking advantage of an offer from the Dobbs family to pick free apples. He said he's hoping he'll harvest enough apples for a pie and some homemade applesauce. Owner Denny Dobbs said the apples are Arkansas Blacks, which taste similar to Winesaps, and the smaller green apples are similar to Golden Delicious. He said the trees were planted in the mid-1970s on the property located on Harold Dobbs Road. He said a few people had stopped and asked if they could pick the bountiful harvest and he decided to put up the sign offering them for free.More like this story
