Police nab two in theft of 6 trailers
Men charged with theft by receiving stolen property

COVINGTON - Two men were arrested by the Newton County Sheriff's Office Thursday in connection with the theft of six utility trailers from various jurisdictions, according to spokesperson Investigator Sharron Stewart.

Christopher Allen Bishop, 24, and Jonathan Joseph Fowler, 17, both of 19 Pine Lake Drive, Conyers, have been arrested and charged with theft by receiving stolen property in connection with the thefts that included trailers from Newton, Rockdale and Morgan counties.

Stewart said a VIN number search was requested by a citizen relative to his purchase of a tag and it was discovered the trailer he had purchased from Bishop was stolen out of Rockdale County.

Bishop, who had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, was later located in Porterdale at a recycling center, according to an NCSO incident report. He was subsequently pulled over by a deputy and arrested.

An investigator came to the scene and confronted Bishop with evidence of the trailer thefts and he admitted taking the trailers, Stewart said. Fowler, who was apparently with Bishop during the thefts and the sale of the trailers, was arrested as well.

Investigators recovered the six trailers - three were located at a Porterdale residence and three at a River Bend Court address, Stewart said.

In other crime news, a 44-year-old Newton County man has been arrested and charged with child molestation in connection with an incident which allegedly took place at his home in June.

Steve Anthony Lam of 195 Cambridge Way is charged in connection with an alleged incident involving a 12-year-old girl.

Stewart said the girl, who resides in Henry County, told authorities she was at Lam's home babysitting on or around June 24 when he approached her asking how to look up pornographic Web sites on the computer. The girl said afterward he touched her inappropriately, Stewart said.
